Life on the margins

Immanuel Church Vancouver is a small urban church congregation that does life on the margins and seeks to operate in solidarity with the poor. The congregation had a website that had been designed in about 2009, but years had passed and the staff wanted to upgrade.

The congregation is diverse and artistic and the pastor had a vision for a colorful, engaging website that would reflect the creativity of the community. Meta Design Group came on board and began helping the church staff to plan and build the website.

Process

The website redesign process began with a branding and strategy component. Questions were asked. Who is the target website audience? What are they interested in? What are they looking for? What does Immanuel Church have to offer? With these questions in mind the site architecture and content was planned.

Then came the visual concept development. We consulted with the church staff about their preferences and their target demographics. With a clear sense of the organization's character and preferred visual language, we worked with the staff to develop a modern image-centric concept.

After working with the ICV team to build their website, we have also been involved as their team for graphic design, and print media work.

Website before & after

Product

Along with the website for ICV, we've done video editing, screen visuals, photo shoots, multiple business cards, graphic visioning documents, sandwich boards, stand-up banners, leader profiles and newsletters.

The website is built to run on Drupal which allows the church staff to log-in and post podcasts and other content. The site is responsive, mobile friendly and it features a colorful, image-based modern visual concept. The website also includes a number of quality videos that were filmed and compiled by various ICV members. Sermon podcasts can be played on the site and they automatically load into an iTunes RSS feed. The site also has a giving system that is quick and easy, allowing donors to make online donations.

Signs / A-boards

In 2015 we did a batch of signs for the church. Mostly exterior signs with a couple interior ones.
